Accessibility checker and fixer for Word and PowerPoint
Accessmith helps you find and fix issues against WCAG 2.1 AA, the standard named in the ADA Title II web rule, right inside Word and PowerPoint. One-click fixes where Office allows them, a clear list of what a person must check, and a report for your records. Accessmith doesn't send your document content to our servers.
The laws your documents run into
Accessmith does not decide what applies to you; it helps your team do the document work. Each summary links to the primary source.
ADA Title II: April 26, 2027 / 2028
DOJ's rule for state and local governments requires web content, including posted documents, to meet WCAG 2.1 AA.
Title II and your filesSection 508: WCAG 2.0 AA

Section 508 for WordSection 504 (HHS): May 11, 2027 / May 10, 2028
Recipients of HHS financial assistance must meet WCAG 2.1 AA for web content and apps.
Section 504 HHS ruleWhat Accessmith checks
- Pictures and objects without alt text, or alt text that is just a file name
- Skipped heading levels and empty headings in Word
- Tables without a header row
- Missing or duplicate slide titles in PowerPoint
- Document title not set
- Text colour contrast below the WCAG 2.1 AA ratio
- Vague link text such as "click here", and bare web addresses
- Empty paragraphs used for spacing, and lists typed with "-" or "•"
What still needs a person
A person still has to check what no automatic tool can judge: whether alt text is accurate and useful, reading order on complex slides, meaning carried by colour alone, captions for media, plain language, and anything Accessmith flags as "check by hand".
