Section 504 (HHS) web accessibility rule

HHS's Section 504 regulation, 45 CFR 84.84, requires recipients of HHS financial assistance to make web content and mobile apps meet WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA.

HHS extended the original dates (May 11, 2026 and May 10, 2027) in an interim final rule published May 11, 2026. Like the Title II rule, it allows a showing of fundamental alteration or undue burdens. Other agencies' Section 504 rules are not covered here.
